Roman Shade Safety for your Children Not so long ago the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) identified window coverings with cords as one of the top five hidden hazards in our homes There is a good chance that a child between 7 months and 10 years old could possibly die from window cord strangulation or suffer a near strangulationSee here how window covering cords could become a deadly hazards We at Deutscher Design are very concerned for the safety of all customers precious little ones.therefore we would like to give a few quick tips that can minimize the risk to their safety while still enjoying your beautiful and of course functional window decor. -> Keep in mind that young children are often quite adventurous climbers and it is important to realize that window shades hanging in higher windows pose as much of a risk as those in lower windows! Therefore caution is necessary with any corded window treatments. It is very important to make sure there are no accessible cords on the front, side, or back of your window treatments Do NOT place cribs, beds etc. close to the windows, children could climb on them and gain access to the cords Make loose cords inaccessible If the window shade has looped bead chains or nylon cords, install possible tension devices to keep the cord taut. Strangulation deaths and injuries can occur anywhere in the house where a window covering with a cord is installed. Children can wrap the window covering cords around their necks or can pull cords that are not clearly visible but are accessible and become entangled in the loops. These incidents happen quickly and silently. Of course quick fixes are never the right solution for something this serious, they are just that a quick fixWell and leaving your windows bare is in our opinion just not a great option eitherDeutscher Design now offers a special child safety option for all Custom Roman Shades, that way we can continue to beautify your living space while at the same time protecting the smallest most precious members of your family. Simply let us know that you prefer the child safety option and for an additional minimal fee we will customize your roman shade with our new EZ-Release Breakaway safety feature. Our child safety option includes a set of breakaway bottom rings as well as the new EZ release rings which are designed to release once a sudden force exceeding 4 lbs is applied to the cord. This new feature will help reduce the danger of strangulation for young children through the cords located on the back of Roman shades . If the discs have been pulled out of the bottom rings by an entangled child it is easy to just snap them back in.
